Garth Roberts is a long term Tokyo resident & business entrepreneur. Arriving here in the late 70s with a camera & a lot of ambition, he soon found himself broke. As this was bubble time where ambition & guts often turned to gold, he assisted in the development & management of an innovative Tokyo based residential language training school before being recruited to lecture in business at one of Japan's leading universities.

In the late 80's, he developed Propix Photo Studios Co Ltd aimed at assisting incoming foreign companies with their stock photographic & marketing needs. With funds generated from photography, he moved into the food & beverage industry in 1992 by financing & developing a Mexican bar-restaurant chain, Poco Loco Co Ltd, on the resort island of Bali, Indonesia. Selling out his highly successful interests in Bali before the crash, he co-founded the British style theme pub-restaurant Meguro Tavern Co Ltd in 1998. Handing over day to day management to a local team, he moved to the Gold Coast, Australia to further the activities of Propix Photo Studios. In 2003, he moved back to Tokyo and bought of the partnership in the Meguro Tavern Co Ltd and today can be found managing & developing this thriving local small business on a day to day basis.

Mr. Zengage ultimately sold IBI to LSE traded WPP Group plc, and subsequently as Representative Director managed IBI's merger with Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. Thomas R. Zengage also served as Chairman & Representative Director of the Japan subsidiary of Edelman Public Relations, the world’s leading independent PR agency. He established a high level strategic communications consultancy, Pacific Communicators, to specialize in high level consultancy in public relations, public affairs, crisis and issues management, and key influencer engagement. Writing in Japanese, Mr. Zengage is the author of the book Sore Demo Yen No Seiki (Tokyo: Kodansha), which contains an analysis of the long term factors driving Japan's economy.
