Myanmar’s newest TV channel will feature aesthetic and educational program

Myanmar's newest private TV channel, Fortune TV, a Free to Air Channel has officially launched its operations. Fortune TV is owned by Fortune Broadcasting Company and is the fifth private TV channel launched in Myanmar and will feature aesthetic, education, entertainment and news programs.

Speaking at a recent Fortune TV event in Yangon, Dr. Pe Myint, Minister of Information said that in the past the only media in Myanmar were state-owned and that the government is making efforts to promote private media development and improve the country’s media industry.

In its efforts to promote local media development, the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) signed cooperation agreement with five new content providers in February 2018 that establish digital free-to-air channels in multi-channel systems. The five new content providers, DVB, Fortune, KMA and Mizzima and My Multi Media are providing viewers with a wider variety of information, views and entertainment programs.

Minister of Information Myint, said in his remarks that private media do not only provides entertainment but that the educate viewers and provide relevant information on business and civic issues. Dr. Myint also said that private media, including the five new content providers, allow the public to obtain more complete information and facts and that the free-flow of information between the government, business leaders and citizens will in turn benefit the country's development. He urged the five new content providers to utilize their “new” media freedom to provide information, education and entertainment to the people.
