Myanmar is planning to implement digital marketing to develop the country's hotels and tourism sector and will focus efforts on promotional work to attract visitors from China's Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SAR).
U Ohn Maung, Myanmar’s Minister of Hotels and Tourism and Dr. Lin Khin Wan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Macao Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKMMCCI) have discussed the plan and said that their discussions covered three main areas.
The first goal is to arrange training courses to increase information and communication technology experts in the ministry. The second goal is to provide suggestions and technical assistance on establishing tourism web portals and the third goal is to arrange familiarization tours to Myanmar with Hong Kong travel agencies and media.
In 2018 Myanmar granted visa exemptions to Japanese and South Korean visitors and is providing visa-on-arrival services to travelers from China including those from the Hong Kong and Macao SAR’s.
According to the Myanmar Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the country had attracted over 2.84 million tourists as of October last year. The ministry said that in 2019 it wants to use digital technology to reduce manual systems and make the ministry’s operations more efficient and faster.
