    Shanghai is considered one of the latest thriving international metropolises of our time and it's no surprise that the restaurants in this city have evolved to cater to tastes from all around the world. Food, by far, is one of the most important aspects of life to Chinese people and this city is arguably the best destination in China to sample the array of high-end foreign and local Chinese cuisines. For sake of brevity, we will only write of several locations where the range of food is plentiful and the quality is top-notch.Two neighborhood destinations come to mind: Xintiandi and The Bund. Then there are also the 5-star hotel restaurants to contend with. Hotel dining may not be your ideal meal destination, but in Shanghai,they have a completely different reputation.

Understanding the Chinese way of thinking can help you avoid unnecessary complications and misunderstandings and maintain good relations with your Chinese partners. Much of the business etiquette in China draws upon key values that are just as important in social settings. They can be summed up as respect for hierarchical positions, the concept of face and building relationships. A quotation from Mao Tse Tung epitomizes the importance of hierarchies. "The individual is subordinate to the organization. The minority is subordinate to the majority. The lower level is subordinate to the higher level."

    Shanghai is a modern city by today's standards but many people in this city still follow traditions that have been carried out for generations. The ancient culture and customs are still preserved and last to show the fascination of Shanghai. Almost every festival has its own story behind it along with its own customs. In addition to the time-honored traditions, modern festivals have been added to the year's calendar of events to balance the old with the new. Not all the festivals are covered in this article since it could be quite lengthy but here are some of the more prominent ones in Shanghai.

    Distilled Spirits Council of the US introduces American Spirits in Shanghai

    In November, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (short: DISCUS) brought representatives of 13 US distilleries to Shanghai, 11 of which have not yet entered the Chinese market, to present some the finest craft distilled spirits made in the USA to the local audience. The products included mainly American Whiskeys but also Vodkas and Gins of the following Craft Distilleries: Troy & Sons Distilling; Osocalis, Inc.; High West Distillery; Catoctin Creek Distilling Company, LLC; Napa Valley Distillery; Louisville Distilling Company, LLC; Philadelphia Distilling; Chatham Imports, Inc.; Templeton Rye Spirits, LLC; House Spirits, LLC; Diageo; Beam Global; and Brown--‐Forman.

    Travel Destinations in and around Shanghai

    Shanghai is a world in itself. Since it has had such an illustrious history, there are many different neighborhoods each with their own character. Some of the more famous tourist destinations to visit if you're a short-term visitor are The Bund, Yu Yuan Garden, People's Park/People's Square, Xintiandi and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. If you plan on staying longer than a few days, venturing outside of Shanghai by plane, train, bus or automobile to a neighboring city is a perfect getaway from the fast-paced lifestyle of Shanghai.
