FEATURE INTERVIEW
Trond Varlid
President, Tomra Japan Ltd, Japan

Trond Varlid joins us today to talk about what brought him to Japan and his company Tomra which mainly focus on eco-friendly machines and container recycling to make a better sustainable society. He shares with us how those machines identify all kinds of bottles in Japan, Europe and United States. How does the machine usually do with bottles and cans? What are his marketing strategies? Tune in to find out more about what individuals can do to help the world.

Trond Varlid is the president of Tomra Japan Ltd, which develops and implements modern recycling systems and supports the operation of those systems within retail outlets. Consumers simply put their used beverage containers into a reverse vending machine (RVM), and the RVM automatically identifies, separates according to material type, and compacts the containers - all in a matter of seconds. Before joining Tomra about 6 years ago, Varlid spent 15 years with a Swedish bank (9 years in London and 6 in Tokyo).
