
In today’s interview, Thomas Reichenbach shares with us his fascinating experiences of coming to China in the mid 80th at the beginning of the urban reform, and what has kept him believing in China over the years. He talks about some exciting life and working experiences he has here, and shares his take on some most important factors for foreign entrepreneurs that are looking to get into Chinese market. Thomas has experienced the start of the reform policy in China as a university student in Beijing during the mid eighties. He started his professional life as foreign trade consultant in Germany and led delegations to China for direct investment projects where he got first experience with joint ventures during the nineties. Finally, Thomas moved to Shanghai in 1998 working as manager and coach for medium sized companies at the German Centre Shanghai. In 2000, he signed up with the German Confederation of Small and Medium Business (ZDH), running the China office since then. Thomas contracted various third party projects for EU, UNIDO, German Ministry of Education and German Ministry of Economic Cooperation. Thomas has expertise in direct investment and M&A projects and coordinates a large china-wide network of chambers, sector associations and business clubs staying very close to the private enterprises sector.
