Larry Purdy
President, Eleven Doors Consulting

In this segment of iTV-Japan interview, Larry Purdy delves into leadership and creative training scene in Japan. Having his own leadership training course and creative fitness group, Larry speaks about how Japanese should change their mindset with globalization, what advantages and difficulties does he have being a foreign leadership trainer. He shares with us the reason made him start the creative fitness group, what are the creative tools, and what exercises do they offer to unblock some of the creative barriers that people created themselves. Since the beginning of 2009 Larry has been working as Principal Consultant for Shahani Associates, an HR Consulting firm in Tokyo, Japan. He has also started his own consulting firm called Eleven Doors Consulting, which focuses on developing leaders with the skills and sensitivities required to succeed in a global business environment. Larry works with clients in the areas of Executive Coaching and Executive Development, providing support for individuals, teams, and organizations.

For ten years, until the end of 2008, Larry was the Director of Learning and Development for Citigroup in Japan. He was also a senior member of the Citigroup Executive Coaching team and provided coaching support for Citigroup business leaders globally.

As the Director of Learning and Development at Citigroup in Japan, Larry was responsible for designing and running the full curriculum of courses offered to Citigroup staff. His own specialties were in the areas of Leadership and Diversity. Larry customized the global leadership programs to fit the cultural needs of the Japanese staff and facilitated the most senior leadership classes.

Prior to working at Citigroup, Larry was the regional training manager for EDS. He was located in Japan but worked with EDS units around Asia Pacific helping them implement leadership and technical training programs. Larry led the development and ran a coaching/mentoring program for high potential staff helping them prepare to take on senior positions within the organization.

Larry retains connection to the academic world as he is on the faculty of Anaheim University and teaches the HR Management module of their MBA program.
