Bernd Sperrle
Chief Architecture Officer, LTE E2E Solution Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell

Bernd Sperrle is Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell’s Chief Architecture Officer for LTE E2E Solutions.

Appointed to this role beginning of 2009, Bernd is in charge for defining TD-LTE and LTE FDD solutions from an end-to-end perspective, including radio access part, enhanced packet core, backhaul transmission and inter-working architectures with legacy 2G/3G systems.

Bernd is based in Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell’s headquarter in Shanghai.

Bernd has gained a very rich experience in the telecommunications space in the past 15 years in many fields, as GSM/W-CDMA/WiMAX/LTE radio access networks, microwave access networks, fiber-based transport & access systems as well as IP backhauling networks.

As a member of Alcatel and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell since 1998, Bernd took several leadership positions in the company’s wireless divisions of Customer Care and Network Improvement, Network Design, Tendering, Product Management and Marketing.

Prior to this role Bernd was leading the Bosch Telecom Representative Office’s Technical Sales Department in the China Region, in charge for optical access & transport systems as well as microwave systems.

Bernd holds a Master degree in Telecommunications from the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

Patrick Donegan
Patrick has more than 15 years' experience as a telecom market journalist, analyst, and strategist. His in-depth knowledge of wireless technology issues is critical to Heavy Reading's expanding coverage in this area. Patrick joined Heavy Reading after five years at Nortel Networks, where he was a senior manager of strategic planning for the company's wireless business – spanning GSM, CDMA, UMTS, WiMax, and other wireless technologies. Prior to Nortel, Patrick spent two years in business research for Motorola's Corporate Strategy Office in EMEA and two years as a wireless analyst for the Yankee Group. As a journalist, Patrick was deputy editor of Public Network Europe from 1990-1995 and editor of Mobile Communications International from 1995-1997.s.
