Hooters Restaurant Hits in Tokyo
Customers are lined up every night to get in Hooters Tokyo, which is the first Japanese outlet of the U.S. casual restaurant and sports bar chain that opened in Tokyo’s Akasaka area last fall.
Customers without reservations usually have to wait in line for up to three hours on weekends after its opening in late October. But customers with reservations can stay up to two hours, while those without reservations can stay as long as they want.
The restaurant is known for its Hooters Girls, waitresses wearing tank tops and shorts, as well as its spicy chicken wings. Many of the Hooters Girls at the Tokyo outlet are college students who can speak English. They dance from time to time to entertain the customers.
The theme of the restaurant is casual beach neighborhood dinners and all types of customers including families with children are welcomed.
Fujitsu to Launch 22 New Personal Computer Types
According to Fujitsu, it will release 22 new types of FMV Series personal computers from Jan 20, which includes one that can display 3D pictures without using 3D glasses. The FH-99CM is expected to sell for about 260,000 yen since it can be used for watching 3D pictures one meters away with an optional panel on its display.
The spring 2011 FMV Series will also include the SH-76C B5-size (257 by 182 millimeters) laptop equipped with Intel Inc’s next-generation central processing unit to make the computer as maneuverable as a larger laptop. Magnesium alloy is used to make the laptop tougher and lighter.
Journalists to Launch the World’s First iPad Newspaper
The world’s first iPad newspaper, the Daily, is prepping for launch.
According to sources, the formal announcement of the digital publication owned by News Corp will be made at an event at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art on Jan 19. And the event will be attended by Steve Jobs, chief executive of iPad-maker Apple Inc, and Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp.
It is said the new technology newspaper will cover general news, culture and entertainment and will include video also.
Toshiba Gets Contract in India
Toshiba Corp. announced that it had won a contract to supply two 660-megawatt supercritical steam turbines and generators to India. And Essar Power Gujarat Ltd., which is a subsidiary of the Indian power giant Essar Power Ltd., is responsible to install the equipment at the Salaya II Expansion Project, a Coal-Fired thermal power plant in Gujarat state.
The turbines and generators will be shipped from Japan from summer 2012 and the first unit is expected to start working in 2013.
JAL, American Airlines to Join Hands on Tran-Pacific Routes
Japan Airline Corp. and American Airlines Inc. announced that they will start joint operations on 10 trans-Pacific routes from April.
The tow carriers, both members of the Oneworld alliance, are the first members of the world’s three leading airline alliances to announce coordinated services on trans-Pacific routes under the Japan-U.S. open skies agreement. They will initially concentrate on services such as the Narita to Chicago and Haneda to New York routes, but they expect to extend their coordinated operations later.
JAL will bring the departure time of its morning flight from Narita to Chicago forward 40 minutes. And they also will give discounts on round trios involving both JAL and Airlines flights.
MOS Burger to Expand
The Japanese MOS Burger hamburger restaurant chain is planning to establish itself as a global enterprise over the next decade.
It expects to enter move into Europe and then the United States, building on its existing network of outlets in China and Southeast Asia. MOS Burger has 1,370 restaurants in Japan and 230 in other parts of Asia. It is planning to raise its overseas profile to about 1000 outlets due to the shrinking population in Japan.
